Grants and scholarships for undergraduate and postgraduate students in Optometry are provided to encourage innovative research in eye care and to ensure India sees qualified eye care specialists who will help in improving the quality of eye care education.

—Awareness Campaigns
Public perception of eye care and the role of Optometrists in reducing avoidable blindness are both issues that need to take a significant leap in the country. Spreading this message through innovative and inclusive campaigns that highlight the importance of eye care and vision correction, the role of Optometrists in eye care delivery,

Education transforms lives and breaks the cycle of poverty that traps so many children. But in India, a vast number of primary and secondary school children are not in the classroom because of poverty. In keeping with our mission to educate Indian children, Alkarams has a small community scholarship program to ensure that children in our local area —regardless of gender or circumstances—have access to a quality education.

This fund enables impoverished children to go to school while living at home with their family. Many parents cannot afford the uniform and school supplies necessary to keep their children in school. Alkarams provides enough money to give the children uniforms, book bags and supplies.

We support a total of 60 children in our local community schools. $50 per year keeps an impoverished child in school. With your help we can support even more.

Finding a New Life—in a New Land
It takes courage, determination, and hope to travel hundreds or thousands of miles and start a new life in an unfamiliar country, and yet for generations, people have immigrated into new lands and cultures in search of a better life. While many things have changed about the immigrant experience over time, some things remain the same: new immigrants face unfamiliar customs and sometimes new languages, and a challenging balance between blending in to their new home and maintaining the traditions they loved from their old one.

However, schools and College today look nothing like they used to 3 years ago, so how will you know what to look for in a school that can address the changes in learning and in society? One thing is certain, schools and learning will continue to evolve to meet the needs of jobs and technology that have yet to be invented.
